How to make mulberry paper, step four:
When the sticks have cooled, peel off the bark and separate the inner and outer bark layers. Keep the inner layer and throw the rest in the compost; you only want the creamy stuff with the long, filmy fibres.
For the next steps you’ll need a hollander beater, so we’ll pick up in August when I’m back in the studio. It will take that long to collect enough bark for a good batch of paper anyway; I’ve got some that I’ve been saving for two years, hoping to someday have enough.

Today’s mulberry harvest from the branches of a neighbor’s tree that overhangs my backyard (and what appears to be a tiny wild strawberry). Not enough to make a pie or wine, but maybe enough to eat with my yogurt a couple times a week for a while!

He’s been having a lack of love with the mulberry tree in his yard, which is dropping rotting white mulberries onto the ground, where the smell alone will curl your socks if not cleaned up daily. That and the greyhounds take turns eating and rolling around in them.

I have a huge 3-story mulberry tree in the front yard. I never even think of it until spring. But when it begins to bear fruit it makes a mess over the grass and driveway and we end up bringing the crushed berries in our house from our shes. Is there anything to prevent the tree from bearing fruit? It is just beginning to get its spring leaves.

If you REALLY feel like it, you could remove it and put another tree there.

You could remove all the spent flowers from it after it blooms if you like the flowers, but this is what fruiting trees do. Bear in mind that this may cut down the number of birds you find in your yard as well, since many songbirds feed on the mulberry’s fruits. Otherwise you would need to remove the tree and replace it with something not so messy.

I bought and planted a fruitless mulberry this last dec. and bingo now it has fruit on it .If you find out please let me know .

If you find one, let me know. I have one in the neighbor’s back yard, but the bulk of it overhangs my fence and drops all the berries in my yard. It gets dangerous slipping and sliding on all the down berries. That, and I hate mulberries with every fiber of my being. I have cut as much off as I can reach, but it just won’t die. It is also destroying our fence.
Mulberry trees have their place, out in a field not near houses; to feed birds, etc…
If you have three of them, I would cut them down and plant something more pleasing and practical. They are also soft wood, so they break easily and can drop branches all over.

not for a thirty foot tree, there isn’t!…. take it down or learn to love watching the drunken birds….. honestly, you can’t figger out a way to get from here to there without walking thru the mess?… or taking off your shoes at the door is too hard?… this tree is an important food source for the critters in your area and you being disadvantaged for a few weeks, is just the payment you make for being allowed to use the shade of that magnificent tree!!!…. I had a white fruited one and loved it dearly…. mess and all…. so it’s not that I’m out of touch with what you are talking about!…..
